The Redfield equation. Resumen: In this lecture, we will introduce the problem of Open Quantum Systems within the Markovian framework, a crucial approach for understanding dissipation and decoherence in quantum mechanics. We will begin by considering the full quantum dynamics of a composite system consisting of a subsystem of interest coupled to an environment. By systematically applying a series of approximations—such as weak coupling, Born, and Markov approximations—we will derive an effective equation of motion that governs the reduced dynamics of the subsystem. This will allow us to describe irreversible processes and the loss of quantum coherence in a controlled manner. Throughout the lecture, we will emphasize the physical meaning of these approximations and their range of validity. Garrido (Universidad de Granada). Title: Some results in harmonic and anharmonic chains with periodic forcing Abstract: We present the exact solution for a finite or infinite harmonic pinned chain driven by an external periodic force acting on a single site. The chain's behavior strongly depends on the distance between the forcing frequency and the harmonic spectrum. In particular, we study the average work done by the external force. When an arbitrary anharmonic interaction is introduced, the system's behavior changes, sometimes dramatically. However, we rigorously demonstrate the existence of a convergent perturbation scheme around the harmonic solution for bounded anharmonic potentials. Date and time: Thursday March 6th 10am. Copmo muchos ya sabréis, el año 2025 es el Año Internacional de la Física Cuántica (https://www.cuantica2025.es/) Se celebra el 100 aniversario del canónico artículo de Werner von Heisenberg formulando los principios de la teoría, junto al desarrollo paralelo de Erwin Schrödinger. En conmemoración, desde el grupo de Termódinamica y Computación Cuántica del Instituto Carlos I de Física Teórica y Computacional. queremos comenzar una serie de conferencias mensuales, el Q-lloquium. El objetivo de estas conferencias mensual será acercar al alumnado, y al profesorado de otras áreas, conceptos amplios de física cuántica. Shaik (University of Oxford and Quantinuum) Titulo: The Focked-up ZX calculus: Picturing Continuous-Variable Quantum Computation Resumen: While the ZX and ZW calculi have been effective as graphical reasoning tools for finite-dimensional quantum computation, the possibilities for continuous-variable quantum computation (CVQC) in infinite-dimensional Hilbert space are only beginning to be explored. In this work, we formulate a graphical language for CVQC. Each diagram is an undirected graph made of two types of spiders: the Z spider from the ZX calculus defined on the reals, and the newly introduced Fock spider defined on the natural numbers. The Z and X spiders represent functions in position and momentum space respectively, while the Fock spider represents functions in the discrete Fock basis. In addition to the Fourier transform between Z and X, and the Hermite transform between Z and Fock, we present exciting new graphical rules capturing heftier CVQC interactions. We ensure this calculus is complete for all of Gaussian CVQC interpreted in infinite-dimensional Hilbert space, by translating the completeness in affine Lagrangian relations by Booth, Carette, and Comfort. Applying our calculus for quantum error correction, we derive graphical representations of the Gottesman-Kitaev-Preskill (GKP) code encoder, syndrome measurement, and magic state distillation of Hadamard eigenstates. Finally, we elucidate Gaussian boson sampling by providing a fully graphical proof that its circuit samples submatrix hafnians. Seminar: Adiabatic training for Variational Quantum Algorithms

Supervisors: Carlos Cano Gutiérrez, Guillermo Botella Juan 25-10-2024 Abstract: On this talk we present a new hybrid Quantum Machine Learning model (QML) composed of three elements: a classical computer in charge of the data preparation and interpretation; a Gate-based Quantum Computer running the Variational Quantum Algorithm (VQA) representing a Quantum Neural Network (QNN); and an adiabatic Quantum Computer where the optimization function is executed to find the best parameters for the VQA. As of the present moment the majority of VQAs are being trained using gradient-based classical optimizers having to deal with the barren-plateau effect. Some gradient-free classical approaches such as Evolutionary Algorithms have also been proposed to overcome this effect. However, adiabatic quantum models have not been defined to train VQAs. A quick review of Artificial Neural Networks and Variational Quantum Algorithms concepts is presented, along with the description of barren-plateau effect in relation to vanishing gradients. Then we will describe the proposed adiabatic training model comparing the obtained results against the classical gradient-based algorithms, showing the feasibility of integration for gate-based and adiabatic quantum computing models. We will end up with some highlights on the current phase of research towards iterative and multithreaded adiabatic training. Title: Entanglement detection using Quantum Support Vector Machines Abstract: The quantum separability problem addresses the detection of quantum entanglement, a fundamental feature of quantum mechanics, meaning that we want to determine if a certain quantum state is entangled or separable. This problem has been shown to be NP-hard (1). Our starting point will be the works from Refs (2) and (3), in which the problem is taken as a binary classification task that is approached with classical machine learning models. In this work, we propose the application of quantum machine learning, in particular quantum support vector machines (QSVM), to the quantum separability problem. By studying and optimizing various encoding circuits, the quantum SVM shows comparable discrimination power to other traditional classical kernels. (1) Gurvits L.
