Title: The Role of Activation Functions in Shallow Neural Networks

Abstract: Due to the huge popularity of neural networks in the artificial intelligence revolution, a better theoretical understanding of these models became crucial. In this work we apply techniques from equilibrium statistical mechanics to study the role of activation functions in shallow neural nets and how they affect phase transitions in these systems.
