Facultad de Ciencias Viernes 29 de mayo. 12:00 Title: Higher order quantum operations part 2: quantum combs Abstract: Quantum mechanical systems are described by states, which can be transformed into other states via channels. We here ask: what transformations can the channels themselves undergo, within the laws of quantum mechanics? This will lead us to the notion of higher order quantum operations (HOQOs), a hierarchy of transformations starting from superchannels which map channels to channels, quantum combs which map superchannels to superchannels, and so on. In the last instalment we laid the formal groundwork to combine quantum channels in the Choi representation, using the link product. Now we will we will apply this approach to construct and characterise so-called quantum combs, linked networks of channels which carry out HOQOs.
