Seminario: Towards Quantum Evolutionary Optimization
Desde el Grupo de Termodinámica y Computación Cuántica y el Instituto Carlos I de Física Teórica y Computacional les invitamos al siguiente seminario: Ponente: Mario Pignatario. University of Naples. Título: Towards Quantum Evolutionary Optimization Abstract: Evolutionary computation has long provided a powerful framework for tackling optimization problems by mimicking the mechanisms of natural evolution. Populations of candidate solutions are iteratively improved through stochastic processes, allowing these methods to explore large and complex search spaces without requiring an explicit description of their structure. The increasing availability of quantum computing platforms has opened new possibilities for implementing evolutionary mechanisms. During this seminar, I will introduce the main ideas behind Quantum Evolutionary Algorithms (QEAs) and discuss the opportunities and challenges associated with their implementation on quantum hardware. The Hybrid Quantum Genetic Algorithm (HQGA) will be presented as a representative example, focusing on its core principles, its potential role within the current landscape of quantum optimization, and the interplay with noisy intermediate-scale quantum devices. Practical applications of HQGA to optimization problems will also be discussed, highlighting the possibilities offered by its hybrid quantum-classical approach. As an emerging computational paradigm, QEAs still raise several open questions about their development and potential. The seminar will therefore provide an opportunity to discuss these methods from different perspectives and explore possible connections with related research areas. Fecha y hora: Viernes 18 de Septiembre, 12:00 Lugar: Laboratorio de Física Computacional. Planta baja del edificio de Física. Facultad de Ciencias.
