Dear Colleagues,

We are happy to announce the new, online, QuantHEP Seminar – Quantum Computation and High-Energy Physics Seminar, starting this Wednesday:

Date:
7 October 2020

Time: 17h00 Brussels = 11h00 New York = 8h00 San Francisco = etc.

Speaker: John Preskill (California Institute of Technology)

Title: Quantum Computing and Fundamental Physics

Abstract: This talk has three parts. In part 1, I discuss the current status and near-term prospects for quantum computing and quantum simulation. In part 2, I emphasize the opportunity to advance our understanding of quantum field theory, high energy physics, and nuclear physics using quantum simulation platforms. In part 3, I describe some recent and ongoing work developing classical and quantum algorithms for simulating high-energy scattering in quantum field theory, particularly in one spatial dimension.

The QuantHEP Seminar is an initiative of the research project QuantHEP – Quantum Computing Solutions for High-Energy Physics aiming at:

  • presenting and discussing ideas and results on how Quantum Computing – and Quantum Technologies (QT) in general – can help address scientific challenges in High-Energy Physics (HEP), and how in turn HEP can bring new insights into Quantum Information Science;
  • bringing the QT and HEP communities closer together and foster their scientific collaboration.

The following sessions will be:
