I would like to announce the opening of a PhD position in the field of Quantum Neural Networks at IFISC, in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. I encourage you to spread this information to colleagues and departments within your university/institute.
Best Regards,
Gian Luca Giorgi
PhD Position in quantum neural networks Open PhD position at IFISC, in Palma de Mallorca (Spain). The grant is for a student to work under the supervision of the “Beatriz Galindo” distinguished researcher Dr. Gian Luca Giorgi in the fields of quantum information and quantum machine learning. About the position The PhD position is fully funded for three years, with a gross salary of 1.353,84 euros per month during the first two years and 1.450,54 euros during the third year. Candidates must hold a Master Degree in Physics or in a related discipline. Previous experience in numerical simulations (for instance in Python or Mathematica), quantum physics and machine learning is welcome. The project will be mainly focused on the study of the physical properties of complex networks that would make them suitable for implementing quantum neural networks. The work will comprise both theoretical and numerical analysis. The candidate selected will be integrated in the quantum group at IFISC, where we are already working in the field of quantum machine learning, more specifically in Quantum Reservoir Computing, a special class of recurrent neural networks especially suited for time-dependent tasks (see https://ifisc.uib-csic.es/en/research/projects/quaresc/ for more information). Location The student will work at the Institute for Cross-Disciplinary Physics and Complex Systems (IFISC), a joint UIB-CSIC research center in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. IFISC received in 2018 the "Unit of Excellence" María de Maeztu Award from the Spanish Research Agency (AEI) becoming a member of the SOMMa alliance, which brings together the cutting-edge research centres and units in Spain. How to apply Interested candidates should contact Gian Luca Giorgi (gianluca@ifisc.uib-csic.es) and provide:
a CV a motivation letter
They should also arrange for at least one reference letter to be sent at the same email address. The official call will be published on July 13 on the website of the University of Balearic Islands (www.uib.eu), and the time window to submit the application will be July 14, 15 and 16. The contract will preferably start in September 2021 or shortly after. Women are strongly encouraged to apply.
