We are happy to announce the new, online, QuantHEP Seminar – Quantum Computation and High-Energy Physics Seminar https://quanthep-seminar.org/, starting this Wednesday:
Date: 7 October 2020
Time: 17h00 Brussels = 11h00 New York = 8h00 San Francisco = etc.
Speaker: John Preskill (California Institute of Technology)
Title: Quantum Computing and Fundamental Physics https://quanthep-seminar.org/session/session-1/
Abstract: This talk has three parts. In part 1, I discuss the current status and near-term prospects for quantum computing and quantum simulation. In part 2, I emphasize the opportunity to advance our understanding of quantum field theory, high energy physics, and nuclear physics using quantum simulation platforms. In part 3, I describe some recent and ongoing work developing classical and quantum algorithms for simulating high-energy scattering in quantum field theory, particularly in one spatial dimension.

The QuantHEP Seminar https://quanthep-seminar.org/ is an initiative of the research project QuantHEP – Quantum Computing Solutions for High-Energy Physics https://quanthep.eu/ aiming at:
presenting and discussing ideas and results on how Quantum Computing – and Quantum Technologies (QT) in general – can help address scientific challenges in High-Energy Physics (HEP), and how in turn HEP can bring new insights into Quantum Information Science; bringing the QT and HEP communities closer together and foster their scientific collaboration.
The following sessions will be: 4 November 2020, Sau Lan Wu (University of Wisconsin-Madison), Application of Quantum Machine Learning to High Energy Physics Analysis at LHC using Quantum Computer Simulators and Quantum Computer Hardware https://quanthep-seminar.org/session/session-2/.
2 December 2020, Ignacio Cirac (Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics), Solving quantum lattice gauge theories with quantum computers https://quanthep-seminar.org/speaker/ignacio-cirac/.
To receive announcements, subscribe to the QuantHEP Seminar mailing list https://mlists.ist.utl.pt/mailman/listinfo/groups.phys-info.quanthep-seminar.
For more details, see: https://quanthep-seminar.org/ https://quanthep-seminar.org/ Please share this information with your students and colleagues, especially in the QT and HEP communities.
Best wishes and looking forward to seeing you at the online QuantHEP Seminar https://quanthep-seminar.org/ this Wednesday 7 October!
